Apartments Are Your Best Bet in Dubrovnik

Lodging

The cheapest lodging in Dubrovnik is vacation rental apartments or rooms. The further outside the city and the older the facility, the more affordable it will be. You can expect to stay in Lapad for 15-20 euros per person if you do some hunting and don't require lots of extras or something modern. But even if you want something nicer, Dubrovnik is a bargain considering it's prime location and popularity with tourists. You can do an Internet search by putting in the city name and "apartments" and easily find 20-30 sites. Look for the ones with pictures and complete descriptions, especially if you are picky. Make sure you have air conditioning, especially if your trip is in July or August and make inquiries about noise if you are light sleeper. Special extras to look for are a washing machine (don't worry about a dryer as you're not likely to find one and things will dry on a balcony in a couple of hours anyway), a balcony, a sea view, and something close to the city center if you don't have a car. But expect to pay a bit more for these things.

Apartment Lina
We searched for the perfect flat for several weeks on the Internet before we found Apartment Lina, and we couldn't have been happier with our choice. It had a very small combination living room, dining room and kitchen (no oven but two burners and a small refrigerator) plus a bathroom with shower and a bedroom. It was new, modern, nicely decorated with air conditioning, a nice size balcony, high speed internet and a parking space. We thought the view of the sea and the old city were breathtaking (see picture above). In June it cost us 80 euros a night, more than many of the available rentals, but we were splurging a bit on this trip and were looking specifically for view and proximity to old town. We were within five minutes walking distance to old town (Ploce Gate), but there were 116 steps up and down each time. But, hey, that was just an added benefit--it helped us work off all those ice cream cones! The owners are a young couple named Lina and Drago Martinovic and the email is lina.martinovic@yahoo.com.
