Branko Modic Dry Points--Croatian Art

We bought these two prints by Branko Modic in Split in one of the shops in the castle at the Riva. They are dry points which means they are made by rubbing inks on hand-engraved copper plates and hand pressing them on thick homemade paper.

Although these prints included a card with a web site (brankomodic.com) when we went to the site it was some type of medical equipment. We've tried to find out more information about Modic without any success. See update on web site in comments below.

Both of our prints are signed and each have an embossed symbol that authenticates they are by Modic.

We noticed after we got home that this print has small "water spots" on it. We didn't notice this when we bought the print, and since it was completely protected in plastic, we assume that it was purposely spotted for effect, but we are unsure.  If anyone who reads this has insight into the water spotting, please leave a comment!
(Update:  please see comment by Branko Modic himself)

If you click on the prints they will enlarge so you can see the detail.

  1. To whom it may concern,

Every graphic is hand made and checked before I put in on market. Spots that you mention in article are added purposely and they are unique on every graphic. Currently we are developing new website with new domain and you will be notified about it.

    Kind regards,
    Branko Modic
