There are a few things that Americans will find unusual in Croatia, some of which are things you will see in Europe as a whole. But it would be helpful to mention a few:

1. Young children sometimes swim and walk around nude. When we lived in Germany, nude toddlers at the pool was the norm. On Croatian beaches, it is the exception, but it still happens (perhaps it is German tourists?).

2. You'll see things you’d rather not…fat men in Speedos and fat women in bikinis, many of whom do not don a cover up when walking along the promenade.
3. Topless bathers. Even though Croatia has nudist beaches, you will find that some female bathers sunbathe topless on regular beaches.
4. Smoke…we non-smokers in America are spoiled. Smoking seems more popular in Eastern Europe, few restaurants have non-smoking sections, and it is amazing how smoke can flavor your meal even when you are sitting on an outdoor patio.
Yea - the "scenery" can be quite.....shocking. I have seen some women strip down to their birthday suits on regular beaches.
